Cycling in Lefkada

As you will see from the plane if arriving by air, Lefkada is a mountainous island -  but it has cycling for everyone.

There is a flat cycle route through the olive groves behind Vassiliki and more adventurous climbs to Agios Petros and Sivros. For road bikers there are numerous undulating routes around the island which can be found on apps like Komoot and for mountain bikes and EMTB’s there are many rougher roads which give access to parts of the coast which you will not see by car.

The lentil fields of Egklouvi lead to the old American base and upwards to the white church of Prophet Ilias at 1,030M at the top of the island. On the way down you can choose the olive groves above Nidri, the deserted village of Roupakias or the winery at Platistoma.

All types of bikes are available to hire on the island, as well as organised tours. We have a number of keen cyclists amongst family and friends who have visited Villa Petros, and we're happy to share the latest recommendations on sourcing.

Walking & Running in Lefkada

As with cycling, the island offers walkers many different possibilities.

The walk down to the nearest end of Vassiliki beach takes about 15 - 20 minutes (depending how often you stop to take photos!) For runners, a pre-breakfast run to the beach and a run / stroll back is an energising way to start the day.

Check out the Lefkada Trails website or Instagram or Komoot for some inspiration.

For those who like their walking at a more leisurely pace there is plenty of choice - from stunning beaches to a stroll around Lefkas Town. Warm summer nights are made for the 'promenade' - Vassiliki has a pretty harbour for people watching. And as the shops regularly stay open til 11pm or later in mid summer, the choice of pre-dinner or post -dinner is down to you.
